Double Running Stitch
Each line on this grid represents a fabric thread.
The Double Running Stitch is just a fancy Straight stitch and just like the Back Stitch you change the stitching sequence you normally use to make a Straight stitch to achieve a little variation.
Come up at 2 with the threaded needle,
go down at 1,
come up at 6,
go down at 5 and so on until you finish the line of the design, and
To make the return trip come up at 7 and make a Straight stitch going over two fabric threads and going back towards the beginning stitches,
come up at 3 and go down at 4 to finish filling in the line of the design.
Read more about this type of stitching and how to handle the thread by clicking on this link Back Stitches . In the bottom section of this article I have some tips for handling the threads that works with a lot of other stitches too. ©2002 Linda Fontenot, www.AmericanFolkArts.com
